Islander and his horse win big
A famous speaker, Glenn Van Ekeren, once retorted about "potential: It's all in there. You've just got to work it out." This has certainly been the case for my husband, dressage trainer Robert C. Braren, who never stopped believing in his horse, his partner. Eleven years ago he bought a beautiful three week old colt, Italik. This mischievous colt turned into an opinionated youngster whose first achievement was to be the National Futurity Reserve Champion for 1995 for the American Trakehner Association. Time, patience, consistency and applied classical training principles do work, and the young gelding finally came into his own at age 9 and settled into his training. This was no surprise to Robert, who is a history scholar, and knew that many Trakehners mature later in age than other breeds of horses.
