Horse Shows in the Sun bring fans from all over the world to Indio
Follow the horseshoe prints in the soft, loose sand to where they disappear on solid earth. Smell the open air, hay and dirt. Listen for the clop-clop-clop as the horses trot to their competition circle. Welcome to the fourth week of the Indio Desert Circuit, where the horses are Olympians, the riders are pushing themselves toward higher levels and the sky is a perfect February-in-the-desert blue.
Soft neighs and grunts jostle the otherwise quiet weekday where amateurs and junior riders compete for small purses. This weekend, however, when thousands of horses from as far as Puerto Rico, New Zealand and Iran, the sandy patch in Indio will surely rustle with excitement as champions compete for World Cup qualifications.
